Ronny Xin Yi
Chieng born 21/11/1985. Chieng is currently a Senior correspondent on The Daily
Show, Comedy Central. He is the creator and the star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student. The show premiered on ABC Australia as well as Comedy
Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to an Malaysian
Chinese family. Chieng was raised in Singapore and the United States, living in
Manchester, New Hampshire from 1989 to 1994. Chieng was a performer with Trevor
Noah in 2013 at the comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia. The following
year, he was asked to audition for the correspondent role on The Daily Show,
which Noah hosts. He was named among the 10 most watched comics by Variety in
July 2016. In October of 2016, Chieng appeared as a guest on The Daily Show to
discuss his response to a Jesse Watts Fox News segment that many believed was
racist. Chieng broadcast an expletive-laden critique of the segment on Fox News
that was deemed conservative by many. He also returned to New York City's
Chinatown. Watters had mocked the inhabitants of the area and conducted
respectful interviews in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. The viral video was
covered by the Washington Post, Slate, and other media outlets. Chieng was a
Singapore Sea Scout in his youth. Even though he's lived in Australia for over
10 years, he still doesn't possess permanent residency or citizenship in
Australia. Chieng made a joke about being cynophobic during 2018's Daily Show.
However Chieng later admitted that he is "100 100 percent confident about
dogs" in an interview.
